    • Ösztöndíj Index is the Hungarian term for Scholarship Index.
    • It is usually calculated based on a student’s academic performance (GPA) and possibly other factors like extracurricular activities or research contributions.
    • This index helps universities decide who qualifies for financial aid, tuition discounts, or monthly stipends.

Terms and Conditions

Hungary student visas have specific terms and conditions. To start, students from non-EU/EEA countries need to apply for a visa to enter Hungary. There are two types of visas: Schengen visa for short-term stays (less than 90 days) and visa type D for long-term stays (more than 90 days).

  • Students must be enrolled at a Hungarian university offering accredited programs.
  • They need to provide proof of financial resources to cover living costs in Hungary.
  • Health insurance is mandatory, and students can opt (optional practical training) for medical insurance offered by Hungarian universities.
  • A valid passport with at least two free pages, issued within the last 10 years, and valid for at least three months after the date of leaving Hungary.
  • Students must contact the Hungarian Consulate in their country of residence or a country where they are residing temporarily or permanently.
  • They need to submit a visa application form, along with required documents, including a valid passport, photos, health insurance, and proof of financial resources.
  • The application must be submitted 5 working days prior to the visa appointment, and the consular section of the Embassy of Hungary only accepts visa and residence permit applications.
  • Students who wish to stay in Hungary for more than 90 days need to apply for a residence permit.
  • The permit allows them to stay for up to 2 years, and they must renew it to extend their stay.
  • The application for a residence permit must be submitted to the respective Hungarian Consulate, and non-EU students who are already residing in the country can submit their application directly to the competent regional directorate.
  • The issuance of the first residence permit costs HUF (Hungarian Forint) 39,000, and the renewal costs HUF (Hungarian Forint) 23,000.
  • Students must register at the regional directorate of the Office of Immigration and Nationality within 90 days of their entry into Hungary.
  • They need to provide a certificate of admission issued by the Hungarian university or other verification of student status in Hungary.
  • It’s essential to note that students who receive the “Stipendium Hungary” state scholarship are not required to present documents for financial provisions.
